Why Judwaa2 doesnt match up to its wonderful originals

I have seen Judwaa2 in bits and pieces. I have sometimes paused the movie and then gone back to the original. Sometimes I played scenes from Hello Brother the epic Telugu movie - the movie that David Dhawan copied scene by scene.

I present 5 reasons why Judwaa2 was an epic failure compared to Judwaa

1. Judwaa the original cemented Salman Khans career - giving us a juxtaposition of the 2 personas that he is now well known for - the shy lovable Prem and the macho hot headed Raja. People had seen him do Prem with saccharine indulgence in Hum Aapke Hai Kaun and seen glimpses of  the Raja in Karan Arjun and Jeet. With Judwaa - in his first time partnership with David Dhawan - he added a third dimension to his persona - his own unique comic timing. Varun Dhawan although he has done many movies , doesnt have a star persona yet and is stuck badly trying to be a combination of his fathers favourite actors ( Salman and Govinda) or trying to out dance the younger generation of heros

2. Just like the Telugu original - Judwaa had great actors doing roles with utmost sincerity in a comedy movie. This is important . Mukesh Rishi plays the baddie Ratanlal Tiger who mediates with a flute , Anupam Kher and Satish Shahs game of one-upmanship was a great side track on his own- ( the hilarious pun where the senior Anupam is named Vidyarthi) ,Bindu adding manic energy as the Sindhi woman supremely named as Sundari Batwani trying for Prems riches via 'vadi' Rupa (Rambha ) and then you have David Dhawans trusted Kader Khan in a somewhat small role as Mala's( Karishma Kapoor)  father who cant understand his daughter and caught between his wife and her scheming brother ( Tiku Talsania). And add to the madness, was Shakti Kapoor playing a Totla yet sincere Rangeela. In Judwaa 2 , the star cast does not even come close - even though you have a Rajpal Yadav trying to reprise Shakti Kapoors role but looks completely out of sync with Varun Dhawans antics.  Same is the inspector track - it just doesnt match up .

3. Then you had Anu Malik going berserk with songs like Oonchi Hai Building, Lift teri band hai. He added his own megalmaniac madness into the movie singing songs with such gusto. The films soundtrack was a chartbuster. Also the absolutely wonderful background music of Raj Koti from the original Hello Brother , added more zing to  the comedy scenes.

4. Heroines - just look at the deterioration -
Hello Brother - has 2 Telugu superstars (they were not superstars then, it was Soundarya's debut)- Ramya Krishnan playing the boisterous one and Soundarya the shy one. Interestingly Rambha in a miss and blink appearance - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZLvAQ6_qWg

Then in Judwaa you have an equal match and a David Dhawan dependable Karisma Kapoor to enliven the proceedings and Rambha managing to stay somewhat confused throughout the movie but enhanced by Tabus voice dubbing.

In Judwaa2 you have Jacqueline who cant mouth Hindi properly when the diction needed for tapori lingo is a birth sign not an acquired taste for wine. Taapsee Pannu unfortunately thought that being a David Dhawan movie is all about showing oncs teeth.

5. Finally a dated storyline. In the age where we have a Fukrey doing a sequel, the tone, treatment - even the slapping of a womans butt as an excitement is just not exciting. Also in the world of smartphones,  identity theft is difficult - the phone can ring more than twice.
