Dabangg2 movie review: Dhaabe ki murgi ..

Some movies don't need a review they just need musings.. Like the holiday season you will do certain things coz you have to do it..

The first Dabangg was an original home grown potboiler with a panache that got defined by the shuddh language, village milieu and antics of a badass cop. Some people confuse Dabangg with the southern remakes like singham, rowdy rathore, bodyguard etc. The commonality is that Dabangg understood what a mass market movie with a larger than life hero should comprise of ( something the south is a prime time khiladi) but it executed in its own inimitable way leading to Dabangg being remade in all Southern languages...

Enough theory , now the rabdi ( good pts)

1. Hooks you straight from the titles that have a nice sepia touch of the first one..
2. Awesome entry scene
3. Salman in terrific form - in Ek tha tiger he looked jaded in many scenes but here he enjoys his stuff like the chicken he devours in plates
4. The goofing around with colleagues Chaubeyji and Tiwariji , the obese boss ( Manoj Pahwa in great form) , his dad and brother is hilarious...
5. The small bits of emotion are nice touches - how the sour relationship with his dad and brother gets better and he manages to forgive them
5. Fevicol se is a hoot in the music department but Kareena looks straight out of bed ( no puns intended) and pales in gyrations compared to the Munni who makes a small cameo appearance
6. Action - Stunt director Anil Arasu delivers the goods with close ups , flying in the air villains and everything that the doctor ordered... The Kanpur sets are ok as we'll

Now the kabaddi ( bad pts)

1. A completely toothless villain despite powerhouse performers like Prakash Raj and Deepak Dobriyal ... In fact the entire premise of dabangg2 - small town inspector entering big city (Kanpur) is the same as second half of Singham... But the dramatic flare-ups are restricted to one good scene( the first scene where Salman gets introduced to Prakash raj ) . The second half is devoid of any twists and turns , political intrigue , complications and this is where the movie loses steam big time... Sonu Sood's pehelvan villainy and the setups in 1 were worthier...
2. Arbaaz khan the producer overwhelms the director -- he sticks to the formula and the template created in 1..There is nothing of a directorial stamp in this for someone who has the genes of a Salim Khan and even a token attempt to innovate...
3. Sonakshi Sinha continues to be the khaatey peetey ghar ki non soni kudi who has one standard expression ...

Dabangg2 is still no match to the classics of this genre but it has enough dishes that would keep you well fed in its celebration of its hero Salman and his revived superstardom...
